Learning Management System (LMS) Plugin for EDS
EDS offers an expansive collection of information representing the library’s collection. So, it’s a logical point of entry for faculty to choose reading material for classes. It is also common for faculty to look to librarians for assistance in selecting and maintaining materials to assist them in instruction. Capitalizing on the flexibility of EDS and some ingenuity from one of EBSCO’s on-staff librarians, we’ve developed a learning management system (LMS) plugin to enable universities to leverage EDS in a simple way to capture course reading lists.
The EDS plugin provides access to library resources from within your LMS using the Learning Technologies Interoperability (LTI) protocol. Instructors can use this tool to create readings lists in their classes simply by searching library content from within the LMS and clicking 'Add to Reading List'. The tool also allows instructors to annotate reading list items and copy other readings lists created at their institution. Please note that the full text to which an institution subscribes is sometimes subject to unique conditions for use as course materials, and the guidelines for each must be followed, as appropriate.
Other features of the tool include the ability for librarians and LMS administrators to view statistics listing which courses use the tool, how many readings are included, as well as how many instructors are using it.
This plugin is an LTI Tool Provider 1.0, and is compatible with any learning management system that is LTI-compliant. The list of compliant LMS's includes Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, and Desire2Learn.
LMS Integration
The code base for Curriculum Builder, EBSCO's hosted LMS integration tool for EDS customers, is available for download and local installation using the code below. You must have local resources to install and set-up the application.
If you do not have resources to configure the code locally, you may be interested in Curriculum Builder. This is a reasonably priced option that provides the benefit of full support during and after the implementation period. For information on Curriculum Builder contact your EBSCO Sales Representative. For more information on Curriculum Builder visit the EBSCO App Store.
If you choose to install Curriculum Builder locally, it should be noted that EBSCO is not able to provide additional support for local installations.
